At just 23, Frenchman Cyril Louis-Dreyfus became the owner of Sunderland, and the English Football League confirmed the legality of the deal. The youngster is the son of former Olympic (Marseille) owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus and is now the youngest president in English football. Former Black Cat owner Stuart Donald retains a minority stake in the club. Young Louis-Dreyfus`s interest in Sunderland dates back to November and December, but the League had a lot of work to do before checking the documents and giving the green light to start negotiations. The Sunderland team is currently in 7th place in League 1, just one point behind the playoffs and the Championship. They have a serious history in the Premier League, but a series of relegations brought them to the third level of English football. Charlie Medven and Juan Sartori also remain shareholders, but with a minority stake, as does Donald. When announcing the deal, it became clear that Sunderland has no debts and all investments will be for upgrading the team and quick promotion. `I am proud to have the chance to lead an institution such as AFC Sunderland. My intentions are long-term and I hope that success will come sooner or later, ` said the contented young rich man.
