The Everton manager Ronald Koeman remembered for the glorious date 20 May 1992, when his goal at Wembley against Sampdoria brought the first European title for Barcelona. Back then Hristo Stoichkov was playing there as well.
`The first triumph is always special, especially for Barcelona. The club has started doing great things since then at Wembley. In recent years many trophies have been won, but the first one is the beginning of everything. Since our night Barcelona has now become a part of the best teams in the world.`, said the Dutchman.
`Because of the orders of Cruyff we were playing differently than everyone else. It was important to achieve these successes in Spain and Europe, but it was important to do it and with his style of playing. I had to make the team play great football and be attractive to look at. That was very important.`
`I remember the days before the final because the fans feared not to lose again. The memories of the lost final in Seville against Steaua were alive. But Wembley has changed the mentality of the club. We have shown that not only can we qualify for the final, but to win it. Barcelona lost their fear in the other night.`
`We were very close, people with strong personalities on the team. We got on and off the pitch, we passed and we have been encouraging. It was important to have players like Bakero and Alesanco, but also foreigners. We had players with the spirit of winners. We went out on the pitch with the idea to win.`
`I learned a lot from Johann and his presence in the locker room. This group of quality players and coaches have made so that the club became better. A group of foreign players have brought us future successes of Barcelona.`, added Koeman.
